Now that this year's Grammy Awards is out of the hair, let's look at the history of Grammys and what is the relationship between the award and these two artists -
Taylor Swift's history with the Album of the Year category -
Taylor Swift was the youngest artist to ever win the Album of the Year Grammy award. She secured her first win in the category in 2010 with her album 'Fearless' and since then she has been a regular. Now she has four wins in the category of Album of the Year, which is more than anyone else in history. She won it for '1989', 'Folklore', and 'Midnights'. The 'Shake It Off' singer was nominated a total of seven times. She secured nominations in the same category for 'Evermore', 'Red', and this year for 'The Tortured Poets Department'.
Beyoncé's history with the Album of the Year category -
Since 2010, Beyoncé has set a record at the prestigious Grammy Awards. At 32 wins, the artist set the record for being the most awarded individual. However, this year marks the first time the singer was awarded the most prestigious Album of the Year award. Despite being nominated five times for 'I Am …Sasha Fierce', 'Beyoncé', 'Lemonade', 'Renaissance' and 'Cowboy Carter', she has only won for the latest album.
Though the 'Crazy in Love' singer has not spoken about her losses in the category throughout the years, she did mention it in the song ' Sweet Honey Buckiin' from 'Cowboy Carter'. She sings, "F--k it, do it again (That's cool) / A-O-T-Y, I ain't win (That's cool) / I ain't stuntin' 'bout them / Take that s--t on the chin / Come back and f--k up the pen (Yeah)."
The lyrics suggest that Beyoncé is not all that bothered by the decision and she will do it again, meaning not winning the Album of the Year award did not dishearten her and she is ready to put most effort in her craft again.
Her husband, the American rapper and businessman Jay Z on the other hand was pretty vocal about his wife not receiving the win in the category. While accepting the Dr. Dre Global Impact Award in 2024, he appeared on stage to call out the Recording Academy. "I don't want to embarrass this young lady, but she has more Grammys than everyone, and never won album of the year," he continued, presumably about his wife. "So even by your own metrics, that doesn't work. Think about that. The most Grammys, never won album of the year. That doesn't work."

Beyoncé and Taylor Swift: what have they said about each other?
Since the infamous MTV VMAs in 2009, the two have been linked with each other. At the event, Ye, the American rapper formerly known as Kanye West took the mic from Taylor Swift during her acceptance speech on stage for winning the best female pop video. After interrupting Swift on stage, Ye took the mic from her and said Beyoncé should have won the award instead.
In a sweet gesture that evening, when 'Single Ladies' won the award for Video of the Year later that night, Beyoncé invited Swift on stage and gave her the opportunity to finish her speech. "I remember being 17 years old, up for my first MTV Award with Destiny's Child, and it was one of the most exciting moments in my life," Beyoncé said on stage at the time. "So, I'd like for Taylor to come out and have her moment."
“She’s always just been a great person before anything else,” Taylor Swift told reporters after the show. “Before the talented artist, the superstar, she’s always been a great person. And I just, I thought that I couldn’t love Beyoncé more ... and then tonight happened and it was just wonderful.”
Ever since that controversial incident, both singers have publicly supported each other. Taylor Swift also joined the list of celebrities to give Beyoncé birthday wishes for her 40th birthday in a Harper's Bazaar video. "The fact that you have paved the road that every female artist is walking down now. The fact that you've done so with such kindness and such grace. To say I admire you — there's just not a word for it," Swift said in the video clip.
Later that year, Beyoncé also sent a sweet note and flowers to Taylor Swift after they both took home Grammys. “Taylor, Congratulations on your GRAMMY. It was great seeing you on Sunday night,” the ‘Love on Top’ singer wrote. “Thank you for always being so supportive. Sending love to you & your family. B.”
Both the music superstars also attended each other’s concert film premieres in 2023. Swift later reflected on Beyoncé going to the Los Angeles premiere of ‘Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour.’“I’m so glad I’ll never know what my life would’ve been like without @beyonce‘s influence,” the ‘Cruel Summer’ singer wrote in the caption of an Instagram post containing a picture of the two in the theater. “The way she’s taught me and every artist out here to break rules and defy industry norms. Her generosity of spirit. Her resilience and versatility. She’s been a guiding light throughout my career and the fact that she showed up tonight was like an actual fairytale.”
Their sweet reunion on the stage of the 67th Annual Grammy Awards this year when the 'Lover' singer came on stage to present the award. Swift appeared on stage to present the country music award. She reminisced on her own career beginnings in country music before opening the envelope and announcing the name with the brightest smile on her face.
Beyoncé seemed visibly surprised when Swift called out her name for the win. As she took the Grammy from Swift's hand on stage, the two laughed, embraced each other, and shared a sweet moment. Bey then went ahead to give a moving speech where she said, "Wow! I really was not expecting this." As the entirety of Los Angeles's Crypto.com Arena gave her a standing ovation, the singer went ahead to say, "I want to thank God—oh my, God—that I'm still able to do what I love after so many years. I want to thank all of the incredible country artists that accepted this album—we worked so hard on it. I think sometimes that genre is a cold word meant to keep us in our place as artists, and I just want to encourage people to do what they're passionate about and to stay consistent. Wow, I want to thank my beautiful family, all of the artists that were collaborators, thank you, this wouldn't have been this album without you. And I want to thank God again and my fans and I am still in shock so thank you so much for this honor."
