Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello have been one of the most talked-about couples. This couple startled everyone in 2019 with their official announcement regarding their relationship. They went from best friends to lovers over a few years and at that time the announcement created a huge buzz among their fans. However, after two years of dating, they separated their ways, which was another shocking news for all.  In 2023, both of them were spotted at the biggest music festival Coachella where they were seen in an intimate situation. Their fans assumed the couple is reuniting but there has been no announcement after that. They were one of the most loved celebrity couples. So, let’s revisit the timeline of the Shawnmila- 

    • 2014:

In July 2014 Camila and Shawn met each other for the very first time at the Austin Mahone’s tour. In an interview, Camila said ‘I remember thinking we met on the Austin Mahone tour, and I remember I wanted to hang out with you, but you were always on the tour bus, just learning guitar’. After that Shawn replied ‘Yeah, that was me. I didn’t talk to anybody. You were the only person that talked to me. Like, you were the only one of everybody on that tour who would say words to me. Actually, I think if we go into our DMs or something, there’s a photo from the day we met, I think’. From this, they started to know each other, which led them to their relationship. 

    • 2015:

In the year 2015, both of them collaborated and released the song ‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’. Since then, rumors started spreading and everyone assumed that they were a couple. After that, Shawn explained how both of them wrote the song in Taylor Swift’s 1989 tour. Shawn said ‘I pulled out my guitar and we were just messing around, not really thinking about writing a song’. This way he made sure they were not in any relationship apart from being friends. 

    • 2017:

The rumor of Shawnmila has always been there. In 2017, they dropped a video where they made a cover of Ed Sheeran’s ‘Kiss Me’. After that, listening to Camila’s ‘Crying in the Club’ Shawn tweeted ‘Speechless.. goosebumps all over. You’re incredible’. Even after reassuring them, their fans assumed there was something more than friendship between these two artists. 

    • 2018:

In 2018, during an interview, Shawn said Camila is his ‘favorite person in the whole world’. He also said ‘I don’t think you’ll ever meet somebody who can feel emotion like her, in all aspects. She can feel hurt like no other, but she can feel love like no other’. On the other hand, Camila replied ‘I shouldn’t be crying at this time in the morning but I AM i love you SO much @ShawnMendes’. Later in December of the same year, Camila posted a photo where she is playing a guitar and Shawn is sitting on the floor. She captioned the photo with ‘Canadian fury + Latin sass’. After that, all of their fans got excited and thought it was a hint of their upcoming collaboration. 

    • 2019:

2019 is the year when Camila and Shawn dropped their electrifying song ‘Señorita’ and since then everyone speculated that they are in a relationship. The lyrics of the song say ‘You say we’re just friends / But friends don’t know the way you taste. / ’Cause you know it’s been a long time coming / Don’t you let me fall’, which generated a huge buzz. After releasing the steamy music video, everyone became quite assured of them. After that, they were seen in many parties together. Once they were also spotted kissing somewhere in San Francisco. One also said ‘They looked very into each other. Shawn and Camila were splitting pancakes’. They have been in a relationship since 4th July 2019. However, they announced their relationship in September. In a concert in October, Shawn said ‘We have been dating since July 4th officially’. 

That year, Camila made a post on Instagram for Shawn’s birthday and said ‘Happy birthday to this magic human, I love you!!!!’. In addition to that, she also said in an interview ‘Falling in love is like an infinite amount of levels and layers and angles. I fell in love and just opened up. Everything was written in present moment’. In many interviews, Camila talked about her relationship. Once she said ‘It’s almost more scary because you have more to lose. When you first start dating a person and you know nothing about them, there’s less at risk there. I think when you fall in love with somebody you’ve known for a long time, there’s more at stake. But it also feels more special because it feels like the love story you see in the movies of people who have known each other for a long time but been too stupid to realize it or say it and then it happens—and that’s beautiful too’. 

Later that, the couple were seen in many events together where it was evident how passionately they love each other. While working on ‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’, Camila ‘really bonded with him as more than a friend’. From this, it came to understand that since then, their bond started growing. She also said ‘I think he did too, but we were both really young, and he was experiencing the pressures of his career. I don’t think we knew what to do with those feelings. It was this awkward thing where we both liked each other, but we weren’t together. It was just weird’. 

    • 2021:

In the year 2021, the couple announced their separation and said ‘Hey guys, we’ve decided to end our romantic relationship, but our love for one another as humans is stronger than ever. We started our relationship as best friends and will continue to be best friends. We so appreciate your support from the beginning and moving forward’. This announcement broke the hearts of all of their fans. They were the most inspired celebrity couple. Their separation made a buzz. 

In the year 2023, they were seen together in the Coachella where they were embracing each other. It was almost two years later of their breakup. At that moment many expected they might reunite again. However, since then they have stayed in touch but they are not dating anymore.
